When are you going to feed that baby food already?!?
And the answer is SOON!
When Cooper is six months old (coming up in another week!) we will begin to introduce him to solid food. We know it was different in your generation, but we have followed the current pediatric recommendation to exclusively breastfeed your baby for the first six months, and then introduce them to solid foods at this time.
So in another week, Cooper will finally be ready to try some food!
So what will we give him you might wonder?
We will start with baby rice cereal (we bought orangic brown rice cereal for him), and then we will introduce him to stage one baby foods. And specifically, we have decided to start Cooper with Squash, Sweet potatos, apples, bannannas, and avacados. Some of this will need to be prepared in advance, so mommy will start making the food this week.
Apparently the food should be pureed and when starting out it should be mixed with breastmilk for a very runny consistency. And each new food should be spaced 4 days apart, so that you can monitor him on that food to elminate any potential allergies, etc.
We read that you must start out slowly (only giving him a tablespoon full of very milky food) and not worry if he doesn't even finish this amount. I have a feeling Cooper will be an eater though. He loves his milk and is still eating every 2 hours, so he definetly likes to eat!
We have decided to make Cooper homemade baby food so that we have total control over what is put into it. So mommy and daddy made a trip to whole foods to buy him fresh organic produce for us to use:
We bought a steamer pot:
We bought baby food freezer trays.
And we bought dishes and sippy cups and cultery and bips.
We even bought a really great food processor.
Yes, we went a little overboard! But hey -- this is a big deal for us. Our baby is about to graduate to food, so we want to make sure we're prepared. Mommy is rather nervous about the whole transition, so shopping helps to ease the stress. he he. What? A little shopping therapy never hurt anyone :)
Here are the Food Charts that tell us what foods we can introduce at what age. It is from a great site www.wholesomebabyfood.com and even has some fun recipes to following for mixing up different baby food flavors once he gets onto it.

When Nana comes this week, mommy has decided to enlist her help to make some baby food. It's nerveracking to start solid foods, but also really fun! Our little baby is growing up and we can't wait to see how he reacts to his first taste of food.
