We took Cooper to the physical therapist for his head, and learned that he has something called Torticollis. Which is basically a fancy name for an abnormal position of the head and neck. Since he's so small yet, they don't know exactly what is the cause of the torticollis. It could be tight muscles on one side of the neck, it could be sight related, or something else altogether. But until they can determine the cause, they have given us some exercises to do with him in the meantime. This will hopefully correct his preference for turning his head to the right, and the lateral tilt to the right as well. They will also hopefully help correct the shape of his head too!
So far the exercises are pretty minimal as there is not much you can do with a newborn, but they have to do with manual head rotation, the way we hold him, stretching, new ways to improve his tummy time, giving him side lying time, visual tracking exercises, and of course watching how we position him whenever he is laying down, sleeping or playing.
