Cooper Tries Finger Food for the First Time

This weekend we gave Cooper some finger foods for the first time.

We started with baby cheerio’s (that we wet down to make softer), tiny little well cooked pieces of pasta, and tiny little chunks of watermelon – all things that would dissolve easily in his mouth – mommy has been afraid to give him finger foods up to this point for fear that he might choke. But we watched him carefully and he did great!

He liked the new experience I think! He got the hang of chewing, even when he missed his mouth with the little piece of food. And his pincher grasp definitely needs some work – he tried, but he wasn’t very good at pinching the food between his finger and thumb and getting it into his mouth. This will be a very good exercise to practice his fine motor skills.

It keeps him at the table, happier, for longer, giving him something to concentrate on.

And he LOVES it!
