Doctor’s Appointment– Cooper’s Sudden Speech Concern

We’ve been getting concerned about Cooper over the past week or so.  While we were away, he developed what could only be described as a stutter.   Out of nowhere, he suddenly started to say, “I, I, I, I, I I” before he could spit out the rest of his sentence.   We didn’t think much of it, because he’s a great speaker with a great vocabulary for his age and really advanced.  But over the last week it’s been getting progressively worse and he’s stuttering on other words as well.   And some of his other words have been getting less and less clear.   Today has been particularly concerning when he started to do more than stutter.  He seemed very jumbled, mixing up entire sentence structures, and having a hard time getting out every thought, word, and sentence.   He  opens his mouth to speak, but can’t seem to spit out the words and even his favourite words and phrases are becoming jumbled and confused.  I’ve made a doctor’s appointment this afternoon to find out what this could be.  Whether it’s just a normal speech development set-back as he continues to learn how to form full more complex sentences.   Or whether their is something going on that we need to be concerned about.  I was fairly worried watching and listening to him today and he seemed really scared and frustrated by his inability to say things that should come easy.

I’m hoping the doctor’s appointment reassures us a little.
