Cooper went for his one year check-up today with Dr. Duwin. Dr. Duwin is a new young doctor here in Kincardine and Cooper was very lucky to get him, and he’s very keen and nice too boot. So, although he misses his old Doctor, he’s very happy with his new doctor.
He did pretty good today – he was weighed, measured, checked over, and even got to show off his new walking moves! But then he got 2 vaccines – one needle in each arm from the nurse, and he cried for each of them for a couple of minutes. It was really sad to watch him cry, but he had his soother and cuddle bear, which stopped the tears pretty quickly.
Here are Cooper’s one year old stats:
HEAD CIRCUMFRANCE- 46 cm (44th percentile)
LENGTH – 75 cm (51st percentile)
WEIGHT – 9.1 kg / 20 Pounds, 1 ounce (16th percentile)
So it seems that in head and length, Cooper is just your average little boy. But this time he was quite a bit UNDER in weight. this whole time he has been ahead of the curve, and now he’s behind. The doctor said not to worry, sometimes these things happen as babies bodies start to change and very soon he will hit his own growth curve and start to not be so up and down all the time.
Cooper is now allowed to have whole milk (until he’s 4 years old), peanut butter, eggs, and even honey. There are no food restrictions for him now, except for choking hazards, so we still need to be careful with making sure the food is soft and small enough. Other than that, he’s good to go! But since we still have a half a case of formula left, we will finish with that first, before starting on milk.
Speaking of milk – last night Cooper had formula before bed for the first time (snif snif, bye bye baby), and he did great! He still woke up in the middle of the night and breastfed, but for the most part now, it won’t be long (now that my milk supply is drying up) that he is completely and fully weaned.
You were a really good boy today Cooper – we’re so proud of you! And now you don’t have to go back for more needles until you are 15 months.
