What’s Cooper Doing at Six Months

The most noteworthy changes of this month are:

- he likes peek-boo-games.

- He is ticklish around his arm pits, neck, and tummy.

- He knows his mom, dad, dog, and grandparents.

- He sits up by himself and plays for up to 5 minutes at a time (although still topples over quite a bit)

- He has two lower front teeth!

- He scoots backwards – a few feet at a time.

- He loves his play saucer and entertains himself in it.

- He loves his baby Einstein videos – they sooth him down as he watches intently for 20 minutes stretches.

- He laughs at himself and others.

- He has just started to make strange and loves his mom and dad and other familiar faces best.

- He has just figured out that when you take something away, it still exists, and he will reach out or cry to have it back.

- He bangs his fists together and plays with his hands.

- He squeals and talks constantly. And has started making consonant sounds, his favorite being ‘b’ followed by ‘w’ then ‘d’ and m. And he just started to say da-da, his first real word!

- He gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth. Not crawling yet, but it looks like it won’t be too much longer.

- He lifts one hand off the ground and holds himself up on 2 legs and 1 arm for moments at a time.

- He sits at the highchair with us at dinner time and enjoys himself and all the conversation.

- He takes small sips of water from his sippie cup by himself.

- He enjoys his balls and has just started to ‘play’ with them a little, instead of just try to eat them.

- He’s eating food once a day (rice cereal and now squash)

- He holds himself up when standing (he doesn’t pull himself up yet) but he’s able to use our hands to hold himself up (all by himself) when he is already up.

- He smiles at himself in the mirror and gets a real kick out of himself.

- He loves his books and concentrates hard on them when we read them. He especially loves books about animals, crinkly books, and goodnight moon.

- He follows his bedtime routine of 9:00pm. He gets soothed down and read to in the dim light for a half and hour. At 9:30 he is changed into his nighttime diaper and jammies, has his last feeding of the night and goes to bed in his crib (now play pen) by himself. Mommy and daddy go to bed a few hours later, but still bring him in with us.

- He’s still eating every couple hours throughout the day, and not sleeping through the night anymore though… that is our big project to work on next. The new food seems to be bothering his stomach and he wakes up screaming with gas pains in the night, so hopefully once his body gets used to the change to solid food, this will stop soon.
