On Sunday Mary 15th 2011, we scattered Grandma’s ashes by the lake at her home in Kincardine.
It was a tough but beautiful day in her honour. Cooper was blessed with an amazing grandma who loved him so much and she will always be in his heart, as she will in all our hearts.
We all wrote grandma letters and read them aloud in her honor. And then we made our way down to the beach.
We started at the pier, one of Grandma’s favorite spots to walk to. And Grandpa scattered some of her ashes off the end of the pier. And Cooper let off a balloon that floated out to sea. We said a prayer and remembered her. It was a windy day with the waves rolling in, just how Grandma would have wanted it.
Next we walked the board walk, Grandma’s favorite place to walk. We walked as a family and thought of her.
We scattered some more ashes along the water’s edge in front of the Gazebo, a favorite spot that her and Grandpa loved to sit and watch the sunset together.
And then, we scattered some ashes along the shores in front of her home, and now memory bench.
We all took a turn, sitting on the bench and thinking of her.
And together as a family.
Lastly, we buried some ashes in her friendship garden, and placed our letters, photos, and keepsakes in the ground underneath a memory stone, in her honor. We planted a patch of forget-me-nots beside it, and all placed a callalilly on the stone in her honor. This is not goodbye, mom. You walk beside us, in our hearts, forever.
It’s comforting to know that she will be here at her family home, with us, in her friendship garden, forever.
We love you mom and you are missed more than you could know.
For all the little things you did everyday to make our lives better… they were the big things. You made us all better people for having known and been loved by you.
Yours forever and ever and ever, your loving family.
xoxo
