Introducing Cooper Waite!

Full Name:  Cooper Peter James Waite (middle names after both our amazing dads and Lisa's grandpa)

Born: Monday, August 17th, 2009 at 7:57pm at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, Washington. He was 11 days overdue (August 6th was the official due date).

Weight: 6 pounds 13 ounces

Length: 20 and three-quarterinches long.

The Details: Lisa started labor on Saturday morning (the 15th) at 7am -- 61 long hours before he was born. We were planning to deliver with the midwives at the Puget Sound Birth Center. But after laboring for about 35 hours and not progressing past 5 ot 6 minute intervals, a transfer to the hospital became necessary. Lisa's water had been broken for more then 48 hours which increased risk of infection.
We arrived at Evergreen Hospital at 3am, and Lisa was receiving pitocin and laboring heavily by 7am. Active labor continued until about 1pm, and then transition continued until about 5:00pm when she started pushing. 3 hours later, Cooper was born.

Grandma, Grandpa and Nana were all present for the birth. Papa also made the trip from Ontario but had to leave before Cooper was ready to make his appearance.

They are both amazing and we couldn't have done it without them.

Lisa, David and Cooper spent Monday night and Tuesday night in the hospital, and went home with Cooper on Wednesday afternoon. Although things did not go according to plan, we followed the advice of our doula Oesa and embraced the Next Best Thing at each decision point.

It was a difficult few days, but the reward is beyond words and we are ecstatic!!!
